ECIA is the umbrella organization of 15 national professional organizations of interior architects, representing over 7500 associated interior architects. ECIA is basically a networking organization, bringing together the experience and achievements of the member organizations and creating a platform for the exchange of information on best professional practices. We have established common standards of educational and professional profile for the Associated Interior Architects. Read more in the Who We Are section.

What is the difference between Interior Architecture and Interior Design?

Basically, there isn't any. In most Northern European countries, like Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Austria, the commonly used title is Interior Architect. In Spain the title is Decorador. There are 5 European countries where the profession is regulated, see the EU-site for an overview. In some countries, like the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy, the title Architect is regulated and preserved for registered architects. In those countries the title Interior Designer is commonly used.
